Karen is a Central Saint Martins graduate with over 20 years of experience as a fashion and textiles designer working across some of the world’s most iconic brands, including Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, and Pringle of Scotland. She was instrumental in the development of the acclaimed London-based menswear label Edward Crutchley, where her work helped secure the prestigious Woolmark Prize.
A true multidisciplinary creative, Karen brings together fashion styling, knitwear innovation, and textile development with rare fluency. Before her formal training, she worked in fashion and costume styling, concept development, and cultural research, particularly in the worlds of advertising and the Ibiza club scene.
Her creative practice spans knit, print, weave, embroidery, and constructed textiles. She is known for delivering prolific, high-impact work that consistently meets—and often expands—the vision of even the most demanding clients.
Karen is also a deeply committed educator, known for her intuitive and unorthodox teaching style. She has taught at Central Saint Martins, the Royal College of Art, and served as Head of Fashion and Textiles at The Cass. She is beloved by students for her openness, advocacy, and ability to help them surpass their own expectations.

Q&A
DEFINE YOUR AESTHETIC:
↳ Classic with a twist, well-resolved, and always technical.
WHAT UNIQUE QUALITIES DO YOU BRING TO THE FASHION AND TEXTILES INDUSTRY?
↳ An enormous wealth of hands-on textiles knowledge, combined with a stylist’s instinct for bold, unexpected outcomes. I bring depth, fluency, and the unexpected.
WHAT DRIVES YOU TO TEACH?
↳ The human connection. I love being in an environment brimming with creative energy—where nothing is fixed and everything is possible. Seeing a student become more than they believed they could be? That’s the real joy.
WHAT IS YOUR TEACHING PHILOSOPHY?
↳ Really see the individual. Think beyond what I already know to help them reach what they might not yet imagine.
CAREER HIGHS:
↳ Co-building Edward Crutchley’s brand and winning the Woolmark Prize was incredible. But honestly, the real highs come from watching students shine—seeing their final collections come together, and knowing I helped unlock something vital in them.
